There are many reasons to use and to not use a product or type of material. Sometimes it’s the cost and sometimes there are just negatives to the application of the product depending on the circumstances. In the world of bathroom remodeling one of the age-old questions is whether to go with a wall system type of product or to use traditional tile.
There are benefits and drawbacks to both applications however we are going to discuss the Top 5 reasons to NOT use tile!
1. Grout
Grout can be difficult to maintain. Especially if there is no window in the bathroom. Grout will deteriorate over time and lead to unnecessary maintenance costs. Additionally, if you don’t maintain the grout well it will grow mold and mildew which can be hazardous.
2. Cost
Although the cost of the actual tiles is cheap in most cases. The cost of labor is what you pay most for in a bathroom remodel and tile installation involves a lot more labor cost.
3. Time
Installing an acrylic or stone wall system in a shower can be accomplished in as little as one day. Tile remodeling will surely take longer. So, if you only have one bathroom in the home, installing a wall system will surely get you showering again faster than tile.
4. Durability
Tile isn’t the strongest and longest lasting way to go. Wall systems will typically withstand more wear and tear. They will last the test of time and tiles can crack easily.
5. Warranty
Most shower wall system products come with some sort of a limited lifetime warranty. Tile has no warranty in most cases so having protection long term if anything were to go wrong can make a wall system the safer choice.
Overall, every customer has different wants and needs. Which direction to go in will always be case specific but there are compelling arguments for both options.
